How the date calculator works

All dates are handled as whole calendar days in UTC, so daylight-saving changes never add or remove an hour from your results. Leap years follow the Gregorian rules: every fourth year, except century years not divisible by 400.

  • Duration is shown as years, months and days, counted the way people do: from 15 January to 20 March is 2 months and 5 days.
  • Business days count the working days in your chosen work week. Public holidays aren't removed, since they differ by country and region.
  • Adding months keeps the day of month where possible and clamps to the month's last day otherwise (31 January + 1 month = 28 or 29 February).

Use it for project deadlines, notice periods, pregnancy and visa countdowns, contract terms or simply to find out how many days are left until a holiday.

FAQ

How do I count the days between two dates?

Enter a start and end date. The calculator counts every calendar day from the start date up to the end date. Tick “Include end date” if you want both days counted, for example for the length of a booking or an event.

What counts as a business day?

Business days are Monday to Friday. You can also choose a Sunday to Thursday or Monday to Saturday work week. Public holidays vary by country and are not subtracted automatically.

What happens when adding a month to January 31?

Months have different lengths, so the result is clamped to the last day of the target month: January 31 plus one month is February 28, or February 29 in a leap year.
